About Me
Rami Ungar knew he wanted to be a writer at age ten, when he realized he loved writing and storytelling more than anything else. As a tween, he fell in love with the works of Anne Rice and Stephen King and, as he was getting too old to sneak up on people and shout “Boo!’ (not that that ever stopped him), he decided to merge his two loves and become a horror writer.
Today, Rami lives and writes in Columbus, Ohio. He’s published three novels (Snake, Rose and The Pure World Comes) and one collection of short stories (The Quiet Game: Five Tales to Chill Your Bones), and his stories have appeared in other publications here and there. His next collection of short stories, Hannah and Other Stories, will be released in 2023.
When he’s not writing your nightmares or coming up with those, he’s enjoying anything from the latest horror novel or movie to anime and manga to ballet, collecting anything that catches his fancy, and giving you the impression he may not be entirely human.

I heard about your novel “snake”. Judging by the preview on your blog and your influences, I know it is going to be great. I would love a signed copy when you are finished. Please make it out to “Connor and his dear father Harlan Diamond.” For future reference, I do make book reading appearances for a flat rate of one box of dog treats an hour. My agent can provide you with more information. For the use of me as a character, I only ask that I play myself in the movie. I have a minor in theater and I do great impressions of Labradors, Poodles and even Mastiffs. My agent would be more than happy to send you a head shot and a DVD of a couple of my monologues. Connor, at first I couldn’t tell if I was getting pranked or if I’d gotten the most ingenious piece of spam ever made. I’m glad to see it was neither, and I’m glad you and your father are excited for “Snake”. I hope to have it finished as soon as I can, and if I can I’ll definitely sign a copy for you and your dad.
As for a movie…well, I’m not so sure. Let’s get the book out first and then we’ll see what comes my way.

Hi. I’ve been looking for horror novels by Korean authors. I’ve done some google searches and your site keeps turning up, but it’s mainly Korean movies. Can you recommend any Korean horror writing? Thanks.
I’m afraid I can’t help you on that. The Korean movies alone were hard enough to find, and I still haven’t found any prose fiction.
I can recommend some Japanese stuff if you like, though. Some of it is manga, but it’s still pretty scary stuff.

For books, Battle Royale by Koushun Takami is high on my list. It technically also counts as thriller and sci-fi, but it’s still pretty terrifying.
Another recommendation is almost anything by manga artist Junji Ito. He’s great, and his stories and art are guaranteed for nightmares. I wrote a review of his masterpiece Uzumaki last year you can check out.
And I forget who wrote it, but the novel Ringu is a good choice. It’s the inspiration for the Ringu and Ring movies, so if you can find a copy, check it out.
