There’s a restaurant in Cleveland, near where I have family, that’s gained something of a reputation. You see, it’s kind of scary. The decorations look like something out of a Halloween attraction. Weird noises like knocking on the walls or sirens are heard throughout the day. And, if you’re not careful, the staff might threaten you with a knife or a bat.

And you know what? People freaking love it! Especially me!

The Haunted House Restaurant in Cleveland is a restaurant themed after horror, especially horror movies. The entrance has a statue of the Grim Reaper in it, the waiting room looks like a movie theater lobby, and the actual restaurant has a statue of Pennywise and horror-themed art watching over the guests. The wait staff dress up like horror characters, and wear masks from The Purge whenever there’s a birthday to celebrate. On TV screens set up around the restaurant, various horror movies, particularly slashers, play. And depending on when you get there, there may be trivia games and horror movie villains walking around and trying to kill interacting with the guests.

Obviously, the entire menu is themed after horror movies. And what I’ve had has been quite enjoyable.

I’ve been twice, with the most recent trip being on Sunday (I know it’s Wednesday when I’m writing this. I’ve been busy!), and I was there for brunch with some of my horror writer friends! In particular, Kelly Griffiths, Ann O’Mara Heyward, Marvin Brown, Andromeda Ruins, and Idalita Wright Raso joined me there. We’re all members of HWA Ohio, the Ohio chapter of the Horror Writers Association, which I help run. Here’s the group photo we took.

Starting from the bottom left and going counter-clockwise: Idalita Wright Raso, Andromeda Ruins, me, Marvin Brown, Ann O’Mara Heyward, and Kelly Griffiths.

Looks pretty cool, right? This restaurant has been around for a few years, and since it opened, there’s been talk among the Ohio horror writers of having a lunch or dinner there one of these days. As it happened, coming up for Akronomicon gave me the opportunity to set it up. And while not everyone in the area could come, a few of us were able to. Some of us had never even been, or even knew the place existed! So, it made for a special lunch.

Until Ida was nearly killed by a Killer Klown from Outer Space. But she survived and the klown learned its lesson. I think.

I decided to post about this for a couple of reasons. One is that not everyone has heard of this place, and I would love for it to get some more attention. Hell, if it got famous enough to open a franchise location in Columbus, I would be over the moon!

I also posted about this because I wanted to show off me and my horror friends getting together to talk shop and enjoy ourselves. One of the best parts of StokerCon is getting together with your fellow horror writers, in a setting where horror permeates every square inch (even in the nicest hotel spaces) and talk about writing and horror as freely as you want. Sadly, these opportunities don’t happen as often as I like, and even less of the time in person. So, getting together with everyone like this was like having a small slice of StokerCon right in the middle of February with my friends by my side.

And in such a fun restaurant, to boot! I mean, can you think of anywhere more appropriate to talk about our craft? I can’t.

And finally, I just wanted to post about going there…well, just because. Do I need another reason?

If you’re ever in Cleveland and feeling a little adventurous and spooky, head on over to the Haunted House Restaurant. Better make a reservation, though, because they can get busy. And bring a spooky friend or two. You’ll have the time of your life. I know I have, and I think my friends did, too.

That’s all for now, my Followers of Fear. I hope you enjoyed reading this, and I’ll try to have more posts out soon, including some with good news I’m currently sitting on. In the meantime, enjoy the slightly improved weather we’re having this week. And until next time, good night and pleasant nightmares.

Life has been weird lately. And I’m the one saying that!

I mean, first there’s the weather lately. If you didn’t know somehow, most of North America had a huge snow storm, known as Winter Storm Fern, that covered most of the US and parts of our neighbors in several feet of snow. It was so bad, we actually had to work from home for a couple of days (though I went into the office more days than most of my colleagues)! To illustrate, here’s what my yard looked like before the snow fell.

And here’s what it looked like the next morning.

Yikes! You can see why I didn’t go into work the following Monday. And how much trouble it was to shovel all that snow out of the driveway the night before I had to go back into work. And most of this snow is still there! It’s been shoveled away or to the side in some places, but there are still areas where the snow is still high and even the roads are blocked in areas. And with the temperature constantly below freezing and even into the negatives, I don’t see it going away any time soon.

And then there’s the deer. Last Sunday, the night before I was going to work from home, I looked out the window and saw a family of deer out in my yard. To say the least, I was astounded. I live near some wooded areas, and I’d seen deer walking around before, but this was the first time I’d seen them on my front lawn. I’m guessing that they were walking about because there were fewer vehicles out and they felt it was safe to wander.

So, naturally, I took some pics before they walked off.

So, on its own, that was cool. But then, just a couple days ago, on Sunday, I had an encounter with deer again! And this time, it was in Cleveland! Yeah, I was in Cleveland visiting friends and hanging with my dad and stepmom. And on Sunday, as I was about to leave for Columbus, I look out the window onto their back porch, and there was a deer!

Yeah, I was surprised. There it was, so close to me! Eating from my dad’s bird feeder! In the middle of the day! And three or four more showed up and then walked away. All of them tagged as part of some local tracking program (kid you not, one had a collar and earrings with the number 64 on them). Did not see that coming!

So, two Sundays in a row, I spot deer near where I’m staying. Is that a coincidence because both my home and my dad’s home are near wooded areas? Or is someone trying to send me a message? We’ll see if I spot any this coming Sunday. If I do, I’ll consider it a sign. Hopefully not from Nokotan, though.

Anime fans will get that joke and find it hilarious!

And there’s a whole bunch of other weird happening lately. Just today, I found out Columbus, where I live, is going to be hosting some soccer games for the Summer 2028 Olympics! Columbus, of all places! I know we have a couple of MLS stadiums, but I never would have thought we would be a host city or a satellite host city. Hell, I know we don’t have facilities for some of the events, so I never considered it a possibility.

Still, it looks like it’s happening. And given how many people are likely to show up in Columbus for the games, I think I will get out of town. Hopefully I will be writing full time by then and can leave town as needed. But if not, hopefully I’ll be able to take enough time off from work that I can get out of town for the duration of the games. As to where I’ll go, we’ll see where I am in life when I get there.

And that’s a good segue into another weird thing: my writing. It’s slowed down a bit lately.

I wish I knew why. I’m doing the self-care rituals I need to, and I’m leaving time in the evenings to write. But a lot of evenings I don’t have time to write. And when I do, it moves a lot more slowly than I would like. That might be partly because I’ve had to rewrite parts of the story I’m editing and finding the right way to tell the story takes time. Still, for a guy who’s trying to get a whole bunch of stories submitted for publication this year, this is frustrating.

Well, hopefully that changes soon. All my Tarot readings are showing February to be a good month for me, so perhaps things will speed up for me after Akronomicon this weekend. Maybe it’ll also warm up and the snow will melt, and I won’t get any malevolent messages from local deer populations. That would be nice!

Because let’s face it, life is already kind of mad, and I’m already an eccentric (and I have the stories to match). Making things even weirder in a way that just frustrates me and everyone else does nobody any favors!

One more thing, Followers of Fear: as I said, Akronomicon is this weekend. It’ll be at the Emidio Expo Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, just outside of Akron, on Saturday, February 7th, 2026. This is a fun day-long horror convention with celebrity guests, plenty of cool vendors, and this year, a film festival! If you can, please stop by. I will be signing books and doing Tarot readings, and would love to see you.

And if you can’t make it and would still like to support me, or if you’re in the mood for some creative horror stories, why not check out some of my books? From plant/human hybrids and strange gods to Mafia-hunting serial killers and carnivorous horses, I have something for everyone (including some free stuff). So, click the link below, and you’ll find all my books, as well as where to purchase them.

And if you like what you read, please leave a review online. Positive or negative, I love reader feedback, and it helps me and other readers out in the long run.

That’s all for now, my Followers of Fear. I’m off to bed so I have energy to function tomorrow. Until next time, good night and pleasant nightmares.

I know what you’re thinking: “Didn’t he just do a post like this?” Well, right after that post, a friend let me know about another event happening near me. And it was right up my alley. So, I applied for a booth, and got approved immediately! I almost posted an update post then…but felt that was too soon. So, I decided to wait.

And now, with some time and a few posts having passed, I’m posting an updated post of events I’ll be vending at in the near future. If you’re able to attend any of them, I would be happy to see you.

Our first event will be in less than two weeks. Akronomicon will be occurring at the Emidio Expo Center in Cuyahoga Heights, Ohio on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 10 AM – 6 PM. This is a fun horror convention with celebrity guests, lots of horror enthusiasts, and plenty of vendors. I’ll be there signing books and doing Tarot readings, so if you want to, please stop by. You can find out more on their Facebook page and purchase tickets here.

This will be followed by BookBash 2026 on Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 1 PM – 7 PM, at the New Leaf Event Center in Conneaut, Ohio. This will be a gathering of writers from all over Ohio and the surrounding states, with panels, workshops, and, of course, lots and lots of books. Again, I’ll be signing books and doing Tarot readings there (and laughing because the venue is owned by a Methodist church and my wares aren’t necessarily in line with their teachings). I’ll also be on the horror panel, so that will be all sorts of fun! You can find out more on their Facebook page.

And the following weekend will be the new event that necessitated this post. Columbus Horror Con will be taking place on Saturday and Sunday, May 2-3, 2026 at the Columbus Crowne Plaza Columbus North-Worthington here in Columbus! (Times vary based on the day.) This is going to be a big horror-themed convention, with celebrity guests, a free film festival, and over 80 vendors. As I said, I’ll be signing books and doing Tarot readings. If you can, please stop by. You can find out more and purchase tickets on the convention’s website.

And finally, StokerCon will be taking place on June 4-7, 2026 at the Westin Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This is the Horror Writers Association’s premiere convention, with numerous panels, an awards ceremony, and multiple opportunities to make new friends. Not to mention to find new books to read! I’ll be there having fun and maybe sitting on a few panels. I can’t wait! The website for the event isn’t up yet, but you can purchase tickets on Eventbrite here.

And that’s all for now. I will hopefully be attending the Columbus Book Festival in July, and there might be other events in the future that I can sign up for. Once I get confirmation I’ll be attending, I’ll let you know. And I’ll be sure to give you a reminder right before each event. But no more. I don’t want to annoy you with invites to my events.

In the meantime, if you’re unable to attend any of the events and would like to support me, or you’re just looking for something spooky to read, I have quite the catalog of stories to choose from. From plant/human hybrids and strange gods to Mafia-hunting serial killers and carnivorous horses, there’s something for every horror fan (including free stuff). So, why not take a look? I’ll include a link to my books page below.

And if you like what you read, please leave a review online. Positive or negative, I love reader feedback. And your reviews help both me and my fellow writers out in the long run.

That’s all for now, my Followers of Fear. I’m off to meet with my fellow writers and then do some editing. Until next time, good night and pleasant nightmares.

Happy New Year, my Followers of Fear! It’s 2026, and that probably means that nothing is going to change and things are going to be exactly the same as they were a few days ago. Hey, I’m a horror writer. I have to look on the dark side of things.

But there is one thing to look forward to: new events in 2026! While I will probably be scaling back the number of events I’ll attend this year (don’t blame me, blame the economy and those who made it this bad), I will attend a few. Most of them as a vendor. And in case any of you wonderful humans might be in the area and would like to see me in person, here are the events I will be attending.

First, I will be at Akronomicon next month on Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 10 AM – 6 PM at the Emidio Expo Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. I will be signing books and doing Tarot card readings. This is a fun horror convention, with plenty of cool booths from horror memorabilia to independent studio films and actors to even taxidermy, and they even have celebrity guests! So if your interest is piqued, please consider coming. You can find out more on the convention’s Facebook page.

Skip forward a couple of months, and I will be at the 4th Annual Indie Book Bash on Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 1 PM – 7 PM. It will occur at New Leaf Event Center in Conneaut, Ohio. Like before, I will be signing books and doing Tarot card readings. (And get this: technically, this event center is owned by a Methodist church, but they don’t police what kind of events or vendors can set up there based on their religious beliefs. So, guess who’s wearing his shirt about summoning demons if the weather’s nice enough?). This is a big event, hosted by Pretty Good Books and Chelsea Banning, whom I’ve interviewed on this blog before. You can find out more, just like with Akronomicon, on the event’s Facebook page.

And finally, I will be at StokerCon at the Westin Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from June 4-7. As you know, StokerCon is the big horror writers convention. There are panels, a short film festival, an awards banquet, and all sorts of opportunities to network/make friends/discover new reads/etc. I will be there as just a regular guest, though there’s a chance I’ll find a chance to sell some books. And if I can, I’ll be on a few panels, too. Anyway, if you want to learn more, you can check out the website. And if you want to grab tickets, you can buy them here.

And that’s all for now. I’ll update you with any new events that pop up. In the meantime, I’ll try not to inundate you with reminders (though I will mention them right before the events). In the meantime, if you’re looking for a good scary story to read or you would like to support me, I have plenty to offer. From plant/human hybrids and strange gods to Mafia-hunting serial killers and carnivorous horses, I have something for every horror fan, so why not check one of them out? I’ll leave the link to my books page below.

And if you like what you read, please leave a review online so I know what you thought. Positive or negative, I love reader feedback, and it helps me and your fellow readers out in the long run.

Until next time, my Followers of Fear, good night and pleasant nightmares. I’ll be back before long.

Guess what? I have some new events I’ll be attending in the coming months! And, as is my sacred duty, I will tell you about them in case you’re in a position to attend any of them.

First, I’ll be at CryptidCon in Chardon, OH, on October 11, 2025! This new convention is going to be part of the Ohio Viking Festival, and will include authors, cryptozoologists, and more among all the Vikings and axe throwing and strong mead. The festival, and thus CryptidCon, will be from 12 PM – 6 PM, and I’ll be doing Tarot readings and signing books. You can find out more here.

Then, the Columbus Metropolitan Library is hosting HWA Ohio for Scary Saturday again! It will be taking place on October 25, 2025 from 12 PM – 3:30 PM at the Main Library in downtown Columbus. This year, we’ll be having a panel with our members, doing readings, and playing a game of Monster Mash (basically, we have lively debates about which famous monsters would win in a head-to-head fight). In-between activities, we’ll be selling books and feasting on Halloween candy. You can find out more here.

Right afterward, the Book Loft in Columbus will be hosting several of our authors on October 28th, 2025 at 6 PM. We’ll be at the Book Loft itself, which is a famous, historic bookstore in a 19th century building that twists and turns every which way. I won’t be doing readings or anything, but I will be there, probably in costume, hanging out and having a good time. You can find more info here.

Finally, we have the Columbus Witches Ball at the Ohio Brewing Company on November 1st, 2025 from 1 PM – 11 PM. In between dancing, rituals, and yes, pub food, I’ll be selling books and doing Tarot readings. If my last trip there in 2022 is anything to go by, I’m going to have one heck of a good time. You can find out more and grab tickets here.

Except that’s not all! I’ve got events already set up for 2026!

And I am going to tell you what they are.

First, I’ll be heading back to Akronomicon on February 7th, 2026 at the Emidio & Sons Banquet Center in Akron, OH. I had such a fun time at this horror convention last year, that I am coming back next year. And they got some cool guests last year, so I’m excited to see what the guest list for next year is! I’ll have more details as we get closer.

And afterwards, I’ll be at StokerCon again! This time, it’s going to be back in Pittsburgh at the Westin Hotel on June 4-7. This is an amazing event, where horror creators of all stripes get together to talk horror, network, collaborate, and have a scary good time. You can still get tickets here.

That’s all for now, my Followers of Fear. I’ll be sure to put out reminders for all these events right before they happen, and I’ll let you know if there are any more I get signed up for.

In the meantime, spooky season is coming up. If you’re looking for something to read for it, or you’d like to support me, or both, you can always check out my books. From plant/human hybrids and strange gods to Mafia-hunting serial killers and carnivorous horses, I have something for every horror fan (including some free stuff). I’ll include a link to my Books page below.

And if you like what you read, please leave a review online somewhere. Positive or negative, I love reader feedback, and they help me and your fellow readers in the long run.

Until next time, good night, pleasant nightmares, and 68 days till Halloween.

I’m lucky enough that I rarely get writer’s block. Occasionally I have a bad night where I can’t get the words on the page, but actually being unable to write? Thanks to a combination of lots of inspiration and lots of motivation, no. In fact, I think I can count the number of times I’ve gotten writer’s block on one hand.

And recently, that number increased by one.

I’ve mentioned before that I’m working on a witchy Halloween story that is the most Halloween thing I’ve ever written. And I’ve been enjoying working on it. However, last week, I noticed that the words weren’t coming like they should be. I was having problems getting the words down, and it was increasing slowly but surely with every writing session.

No doubt about it, writer’s block was settling in.

Thankfully, I have a method that always helps me get over writer’s block.

Now, if you look around the Internet long enough, you’ll find hundreds of different methods for getting over writer’s block. They range from finding a different time or place to write, or doing freewriting and brainstorming, to therapy and mindfulness meditation. I’ve got nothing against those other methods. If one of them works for you, good for you. This is just the one that works for me. And if you as a writer find it helpful, then great.

So what do I do? Well, I edit. Sort of. I go back to the beginning of the story and go over the material I’ve written. Try to see where the writer’s block started and why. Is it a problem with the plot? Is it a mental issue? By going through the story, I hope to find out and find a solution.

And that’s what I did. And it worked. Without getting into too many details, I realized that it was a mental issue regarding whether or not I was crossing a certain line. A line that I wasn’t sure I wanted to cross in a story. It had nothing to do with the story itself, just me worrying about something. And, as I went through the story, looked at what I’d written, where I wanted the story to go, and other writers who had written similar subject matter, I realized I was worrying about nothing. I’d just made up a problem in my head for some dumb reason.

Anyway, now that the non-issue is resolved, I’m able to get back to writing this witchy story. Will it be any good? Hard to say. I like to think it has potential. For now, though, I’m just aiming to finish the first draft and have fun along the way.

And if writer’s block pops up on this or any other story in the future, I’ll know how to deal with it before it gives me too much trouble.

Do you ever deal with writer’s block? Do you have a favorite method to get over it? What is it?

One more thing, my Followers of Fear: I’ll be at Akronomicon in Akron, Ohio on Saturday, February 1st, 2025 at the Emidio & Sons Expo Center. It looks to be a fun little horror con, and I’ll be there selling books and doing Tarot readings. If you want to stop by, you can purchase tickets off the convention’s Facebook page.

And if you can’t stop by, if you want to support me, or you’re just looking for a good story that’s preferably of the scary variety, you can check out any of my books. From plant/human hybrids and strange gods to Mafia-hunting serial killers and Jewish exorcisms, I’ve got something scary and weird for every horror fan. I even have some free stuff and an Arthurian short story, so why not check it out on my books page?

And if you like what you read, please leave a review online somewhere. Positive or negative, I love reader feedback, and it helps me and other readers out in the long run.

Until next time, my Followers of Fear, good night and pleasant nightmares!

Wow. It’s been a kind of crazy this year, hasn’t it? If I’m not careful, 2025 is going to leave me exhausted! Wait, what do you mean we’re not even ten days into January? Oh God, somebody get me off this ride!

Alright, enough kidding around. Besides, I’m not doing too bad so far. I actually feel really good about what I’ve gotten done today, and coming back to work after vacation hasn’t been as bad as it could have been. I just wish I had more time to devote to writing like I did on that vacation!

Well, maybe through meeting readers and other writers at events, I’ll eventually get to that point. And with that rather silly segue, let’s talk about the events I’ll be attending and/or vending at in 2024, because I’ve got a new one I’m going to be in!

First, in a little over three weeks, I’ll be at Akronomicon on Saturday, February 1st at the Emidio and Sons Banquet Center in Akron, Ohio. Formerly known as Monster Mania, this is from what I hear a small but passionate horror con, and I’m looking forward to it. If you can, please stop by. I’ll be signing books and doing Tarot readings and would love to see you. You can grab tickets through the event’s Facebook page.

Then, I’ll be at the Akron Book Festival at the Main Library in downtown Akron on March 8th. It’s being sponsored by their library, and it sounds like it’s going to be quite popular, like the Columbus Book Fest (but hopefully not as hot and humid). Once more, I’ll be there selling books and maybe doing Tarot readings, so if you can stop by, please do. You can find more info on their website here.

Fast forward two months, and on May 10th, I’ll be at the Halfway To Halloween Expo at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This is a very popular event I’ve heard so many things about, so I’m really looking forward to it. Again, I’ll be signing books and doing Tarot readings, so if you can join me there, I would love to see you. You can find out more information on their newly revamped website.

Then in June, I have two events! The first will be StokerCon in Stamford, Connecticut on June 12th-15th. I’m so excited for this! I loved the last StokerCon I was at, and I’m looking forward to this one even more, as I’ll hopefully be allowed on a panel or two, and I’ll be pitching The Shape of Evil to agents. You can learn more about the con from the website.

And last but not least, I’ve just been confirmed for the Big Ohio Book Con in Medina, Ohio on June 28th-29th. This con is hosted by Black Cat Books & Oddities, a bookstore that’s been talked about quite a bit in local horror circles for its leanings towards the dark and spooky. I’ll be doing my thing there, so I hope to see you there! You can find more information on the shop’s website.

And that’s all for now, my Followers of Fear. There will probably be one or two more before the year is out, and I’ll be sure to let you know when I’ve been confirmed for any of them.

Again, I hope to see you there. And if I don’t but you’d still like to support me, I’ve got a bunch of books available. From plant/human hybrids and strange gods to Mafia-hunting serial killers and car-chasing ghosts, I’ve got something for every horror fan, including some free stuff. And in case you haven’t heard, I also have a new book coming out that’s available for preorder! So, be sure to check them out and, if you like what you read, please leave a review! I’ll leave a link for my book page below.

That’s all for now, my Followers of Fear. I have a few posts planned in the future, so I’ll be writing and posting those as soon as I can. Until then, good night and pleasant nightmares!

This year, I went with a totally metal graphic. You like it?

It probably won’t surprise you that I’m already scheduled to attend some events as an author in the coming year. And because I love it when I run into Followers of Fear at these events (doesn’t happen often, but it still happens occasionally), I try to advertise the hell out of them in the hopes that someone reading these posts will be in the area and want to come and see me.

Plus, I’m doing a lot of new events this coming year, of which most of them are horror cons, so that should be a lot of fun. So, without further ado, let’s talk about what’s happening in 2025!

First, I’ll be getting started early this year with Akronomicon. This horror themed convention, previously known as Monsterfest Mania, will be held at the Emidio Expo Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, which is located in the Akron metropolitan area (hence the name Akronomicon). It’ll be held February 1st, from 10 AM – 7 PM. I’ll be there selling books and doing Tarot readings. If you can stop by, please do. Tickets are being sold here.

Then, I’ll be back in Akron at the Akron Book Festival on March 8th from 11 AM – 3 PM at the Main Library in downtown Akron. I’ll be there with a bunch of local Ohio authors, selling books (and hopefully being allowed to do Tarot readings). If you can, please stop by. You can find out more here.

Skip forward two months, and I’ll be heading up north to Michigan for the Halfway to Halloween Expo! This is an annual event held around when we’re six months away from Halloween (hence the name), and from what I hear, it’s always popular. This coming year, it takes place on Saturday, May 10th, 2025 from 11 AM – 6 PM at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds (now there’s a name!) in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I’ll be there selling books and doing Tarot readings, so I hope to see you there. You can find out more on their website.

And finally, StokerCon 2025 will be held in Stamford, Connecticut on June 12th – 15th. This is the Horror Writers Association’s very own convention, with lots of panels, pitch sessions, endless ways and reasons to socialize, and, of course, the Bram Stoker Awards Dinner and Ceremony. I don’t know if I’ll be selling anything there this year, but I’ll definitely be there to enjoy myself, see old friends and make new ones, and possibly get books into people’s hands. I’d be happy to see you there, too, so do come say hi if you’re planning on attending as well. You can find out more about the convention here.

And that’s really all for now, my Followers of Fear. If I am confirmed for other events, I will let you know in case you want to come. In the meantime, I’ll try not to bombard you with reminders of events except right before the events. Unless talking about them more will get people to come? Hmm…something to think about.

Anyway, if you’re unable to come to the events and want to support me, you want to support me anyway, or you just want something to read, why not check out one of my books? From plant/human hybrids and strange gods to Mafia hunting serial killers and carnivorous horses, I have something for every horror fan, so why not check something out? I’ll leave links below.

And if you like what you read, please leave a review online so I know what you thought. Every review helps me out immensely. Not to mention, it helps other readers figure out if the book is right for them.

Anyway, it’s late and I’m tired, so I’m going to head to bed, my Followers of Fear. So, until next time (maybe tomorrow or Tuesday, depending on how things go), good night, pleasant nightmares, and happy holidays.

Occasionally, there’s a lot I want to post about, but none of it is enough for a new blog post on its own. In those moments, especially when it’s been a minute since I last posted, I like to do a little (ha ha!) post with quick updates about what I’m working on lately and things going on in my life.

So, without further ado, let’s get to some updates!

Working on New and Shorter Works

As many of you know, I spent most of last year editing various stories, especially those in Hannah and Other Stories. After the Great Editing was over, I wanted to do nothing but write new things, and a lot of them, too. And I’ve done just that, working on one short story, a couple of novelettes, two novellas, and, much as I didn’t expect it to, a new novel (more on that below). In total, I’ve written six new stories. One, “White Leaves,” will be published on an upcoming episode of the Tales to Terrify podcast, another is with an alpha reader, and the others need a second draft.

Looking forward, I have three new stories I want to work on. One, a story set in the Cthulhu Mythos, I’m currently writing an outline for. Once all three are done, I’ll actually edit some of these stories and try to get them published.

Shape of Evil and Crawler

Remember I mentioned above I wrote a novel? That novel, The Shape of Evil, was originally supposed to be a novelette or a novella, but I guess the story had other plans. Otherwise, I would have hesitated before committing to such a long project. Anyway, the story is about a 3D printer from Hell, and I plan to do a second draft of it in December. While the novel took me six months to write, I’m hoping the editing takes only a few weeks to two months.

Afterwards, I plan to get a beta/sensitivity reader to look at it (the protagonist is a non-binary teen, so I want to make sure I’m representing the community in a way that’s positive), and do another draft based on their feedback. After that…well, I want to pitch this story at StokerCon next year. See if I can find an agent or publisher for it right off the bat. We’ll see what happens.

And as for my mummy novel, Crawler, yes, I still plan to finish it. I need to finish all these other stories and then edit some of them, but yes, I still plan to finish it. I hate that I haven’t worked on it for so long, but I will get it done. Just you wait and see.

Upcoming Events

As many of you know, I have a big day on October 26th, 2024, here in Columbus. First, the downtown library will be hosting HWA Ohio for an event called Scary Saturday. It’ll be a big day full of readings, short lectures, fun and spooky games, and plenty of local authors selling their books, among other things. I’ll be there selling copies of Rose and giving a lecture on how horror can be therapeutic to some readers, as well as generally helping out.

And then in the evening, some of us will be heading over to the Thurber House, a local writing-focused organization, for their Halloween celebration to do readings and attend spooky tours. I’ll be reading from Rose and selling whatever copies are left over. Should be a good time.

And while I might be doing fewer events next year (can you blame me in this economy?), I do have a few I’m already scheduled to attend. I’ll be at Akronomicon in Akron, OH on February 1st, 2025, and I’ll be at Halfway to Halloween in Ann Arbor, MI on May 11th, 2025. Both sound like big events, so I’m looking forward to being there for the very first time.

And if other events come up, I’ll be sure to let you all know.

Other Stuff

There are some things I would like to discuss in detail here, but I’m not ready to do so just yet. I will say that I’m doing more to take care of my physical and mental health due to changes in my life. I am working out and eating healthier these days for the former, and I’ve noticed a vast improvement.

As for my mental health, I’m just doing a lot of different things, including finding time for self-care and talking to the right sort of people, to make sure life’s worries and cares don’t get me down. I’ve also noticed a vast improvement on this.

(Though for both, there is still room to improve).

Finally, a big announcement: I’ll be going to Israel at the end of the year.

I know, I know, there’s a war and I disagree with A LOT of what Israel’s government does. However, I do feel that the Land of Israel is my homeland and maybe the last refuge for me and my fellow Jews on this Earth. And it’s important at this time for my people to ensure this country continues to exist, whatever our feelings about the current situation.

Besides, I haven’t been since I was 17 and a friend of mine is getting married there, so I guess no time like the present.

That’s all for now, my Followers of Fear. I hope you’re as excited to read the works above I mentioned once they’re ready. In the meantime, if you want to support me, or you’re just looking for a good scary story (and I figure you would be, with only fourteen days to go to Halloween), I have plenty of good stories for you to check out. From plant/human hybrids and strange gods to Mafia-hunting serial killers and carnivorous horses, I have something for every horror fan, including some free stuff. I’ll leave a button below if you want to check out my work. And if you do, be sure to leave a review so I know what you thought.

Until next time, good night and pleasant nightmares.
